Bullock Cart Tanker Watering Road In Bangalore-Old PC

This is an old 1907 postcard that shows the watering of a road in Bangalore, now Bengaluru. Since motorized water tanker lorries did not arrive on the scene yet the watering was done by bullock cart tankers. The road pictured could be the South Parade Road, now MG Road, or some other prominent road of Bengaluru.

See my post- South Parade Road Bangalore – Old Photo 1880.

Bengaluru like Chennai once had wide boulevards in the British era days, not anymore because of the rapid growth of the city. Located on the Deccan Plateau, Bengaluru has the most pleasant climatic conditions. At one time nicknamed the garden city of India and probably still is. Also shown in this old postcard of Bangalore’s road watering are rows of impressive white gated compounds, apparently the entrance to the grand bungalows of the period.

Did you know- the shopping area near South Parade ground (M G Road) was once called Blackpally.
