Afsar Jung The Nizam's Aide's Horse Cart, 1900 Postcard

A 1900 postcard shows the horse cart of  Sir Afsar Jung, an aide to Hyderbad’s Nizam. The Nizams were the rulers of Hyderabad State, from 1724 to 1948. The Nizam was believed to be the richest man in the world at one time. They had their own army, airline, railway network, postal system, and so on.

Afsar Jung was the commander-in-chief of the Nizam’s regular forces (army). He was born in 1852 and died in 1930, a top-class horseman, a good sportsman, and a sharpshooter. It was a sight to behold the Commander-In-Chief’s tandem horse carriage passing the  Bund  Road. In this picture, the man himself seems to be steering the tandem horse cart.
