Afsar Jung The Nizam’s Aide’s Horse Carriage – Old Postcard

This 1900 photo postcard shows the horse-drawn carriage of Sir Afsar Jung the aide to the Nizam of Hyderabad. The Nizams were the rulers of Hyderabad State, ruling from 1724 to 1948. The Nizam of Hyderabad was the richest man in the world at one time. They would have their own army, airline, railway network, postal system, and so on.

Sir Afsar Jung, was the commander-in-chief of the Nizam’s regular forces (army). He was born in 1852 and died in 1930.  He was a top-class horseman, a good sportsman, and a sharpshooter. It was a sight to behold the Commander-In-Chief’s tandem horse carriage passing the  Bund  Road. In this photo postcard the man himself is steering the tandem.
