The Order Of The Star Of India, 1900 Postcard

A 1900 postcard depicting The Order Of The Star Of India. After the defeat of the Indian rebellion of 1857, Queen Victoria terminated the British East India Company’s rule over India. Consequently, India came under the direct rule of the British Crown. Perhaps to clear any ill feelings against the British Queen Victoria may have Instituted The Order of the Star of India in 1861.

Although Britishers have also been awarded this order of the star of India. Some of the awardees are The Prince of Wales; Jayajirao Scindia, Maharaja of Gwalior; Maharaja Duleep Singh; Lord Gough Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army; Maharaja Balarama Varma, Maharaja of Travancore; Lord Mountbatten, and so on. The postcard has a handwritten inscription see back. Click on the photo for better view.

Did You Know- the last living awardee or knight, the Maharaja of Alwar, died in 2009 and the order became dormant since then.
