St John’s Hill Road Bangalore – Old Photo 1900

This is an old 1900 Postcard of St John’s Hill Road in Bangalore or Bengaluru. The St John’s Hill Road is possibly St Johns Road, in Bangalore, now Bengaluru. There is not much information on this street.

Except for a map and some writeup- Saint Johns Road, Ulsoor Map.

Bangalore founded by Kempe Gowda I a feudal ruler under the Vijaynagara Empire in 1537. Kempe Gowda built a mud fort, that would later be taken over by Hyder Ali in 1761. The Bangalore fort as it is commonly called was strengthened by Hyder Ali. It was further improved and strengthened by his son Tipu Sultan, after his father Hyder Ali’s death.

See post- British Girls Cycling In Commercial Street – Old Postcard 1904., and, Rampart of Tipu Sultan’s Bangalore Fort – Old Postcard 1900.

Did you know- Bangalore or Bengaluru located on the Deccan Plateau is at an elevation of  3020 feet. Making it the city possibly on the highest elevation in India.
