Rare Views Of Cochin (Ernakulam) – 2 Photos 1935
Two old photos with views of Cochin (Ernakulam) from the 1930s. These small-sized photos share a rare glimpse of Cochin or Kochi (Ernakulam) from the 1930s. The exact location is not certain, but the first photo is probably the entrance to the Durbar Hall. The road in the front should apparently be the Durbar Hall Road.
The second photo seems to be today’s Park Avenue Road or the Ernakulam Boat Jetty Road. With its once row of quaint buildings on one side and the backwaters on the other side. The areas preceding the Boat Jetty to Subhash Park up to Foreshore Road were reclaimed from the backwaters as far as can be known before the 1960s. Click on the photo for better view.
See post Boat Jetty At Ernakulam- Old Postcard 1950., and Rajendra Maidan Ernakulam Kochi, Old Photo 1944.
Did you know- the Boat Jetty was once the gateway to the city because the surrounding areas were dotted with habitable islands. But after the construction of bridges boats have become less in use.
