King George V And His Family, 1910 Print

King George V And His Family, 1910 Print

A 1910 print of King George V Emperor of India and his family. This is a page from The Times of India Supplement of 1910. King George, Queen Mary, and their eldest son Prince Edward VIII are shown in the picture. The picture was taken probably just after George V ascended the British throne as the King-Emperor. Both he and his wife Queen Mary had twice visited India.

Once when he was the Prince of Wales in 1905. Their second visit was in 1911, for the Delhi Durbar, where he was bestowed with the additional title Emperor of India. Prince Edward VIII succeeded his father King George V to the throne in 1936. However, Prince Edward’s reign lasted only 11 months, since he abdicated his throne to marry an American divorcee. His younger brother King George VI  became the British monarch in December 1936.
