Indian Troops In Europe WW1, Old Postcard 1915
This is an old 1915 photo postcard of Indian troops in Europe in WW1. Two men are seated on the railway track having their meal. Others are visible near a train in the background. All of them were a part of the Indian troops sent to Europe in WW1 in 1914. World War I began on August 4, 1914, after Great Britain declared war against Germany.
The great war as it was also called would end in 1918. But in this short period of 4 years, millions would die. There were around 40 million military and civilian casualties. 20 million died and 21 million were wounded, 9.7 million military personnel, and 10 million civilians. Over 1 million Indian troops were deputed to the war zone. Out of which more than 74,000 of these Indian soldiers died. Click on the photo for better view.
Did you know- those who fought and died in the First World War would have had little idea that there would so soon be a second world war (1939-1945).
