This interesting book was first published in 1832, and authored by General Godfrey Mundy. It recollects the author’s mental impressions while on his tour of various parts of mostly Northern India. The effort of his work is from 1827 up to 1830. The book Pen And Pencil Sketches In India, Journal Of ATour In India gives details of the habits of the local people with plenty of anecdotes.
It describes the people, places, monuments, religious ways, cultures, etc in a very entertaining and enjoyable reading. The narrative begins in Calcutta, then goes through Allahabad, Kanpur (Cawnpore), Lucknow, Agra, Mathura, Delhi, Shimla, Gwalior, and so on. The author General Mundy was able to travel to all these places in British India, because he was a career officer in the British Army.
