Written after the 1911 census of India, the view is of a Britisher’s eye. India was a fascinating land for the Britishers and Europeans alike. Any number of stories related to it could not whet the literary appetites of the Europeans.

With diverse cultures, languages, religions, castes, food, communities, exotic animals, and so on. Held great interest and fascination for them. Astonishing for them was the extreme climates, in the north, there was extreme summer followed by winter that snowed in certain areas.

In the south, it was tropical climate throughout coupled with cooler climes of the Deccan. And the very cold climes of the highest points of the Western Ghats.  About the author- James Drummond Anderson (1852–1920)
