Greetings From Bombay Presidency – Old Postcard WWI

This is a Christmas and New Year Greetings Postcard illustrating the British Indian Army of WWI. The postcards were “Presented by the Women of the Bombay Presidency”. Printed and published by the Times of India Press, Bombay. Indian troops participated in many war fronts especially in Europe in WWI. The illustration on the right side depicts a front-line trench in the Jebel Hamarin, Mesopotamia.

With a British soldier hoisting the Union Jack Flag shown on the left side. The wives of the colonial officers in Mumbai in World War I grouped together under Lady Willingdon. Creating the War & Relief Fund for the Indian and British troops under various theaters of war in WWI. Various types of stuff were sold under the fundraising drive that was to help the families of the troops.

Did you know- Lord Willingdon husband of Lady Willingdon served as the Governor of Bombay (1913-18), Governor of Madras (1919-24), Governor-General of Canada (1926-31), and then the Viceroy of India (1931-36).
