Commercial Street In British Era Bangalore, 1900 Postcard
A 1900 postcard of Commercial Street during the British India era in Bangalore (Bengaluru). It is the oldest shopping center iconic in Bengaluru. With rows of well-laden shops a must-visit place when visiting the city if you do not mind the jostling of the jam-packed shoppers.
Military and civil officers would come shopping here on Commercial Street. One such was a low-ranking military personnel at that time, Winston Churchill. He was a regular visitor to Commercial Street and went on to become the future prime minister of Great Britain. The Street is crisscrossed with narrow by-lanes. it is in the center of Bangalore, close to M G Road and Russell Market (Shivaji Nagar).
