Commercial Street In Bangalore – Old Postcard 1900

This is an old 1900 photo postcard of Bangalore’s or Bengaluru’s Commercial Street in British India era. It is the oldest shopping center iconic to Bengaluru. Read more- Commercial Street unveiled in centuries-old sepia. With rows of well-laden shops a must-visit place when visiting the city if you do not mind the jostling of the jam-packed shoppers.

Military and civil officers would come shopping here on Commercial street. One such was a low-ranking military personnel Winston Churchill, a regular visitor who went on to become the future prime minister of Britain. This road is in the center of Bengaluru, quite close to M G Road and Russell Market (Shivaji Nagar). It is crisscrossed with narrow bye-lanes.

Did you know- Commercial street is popular for textiles, readymades, footwear, mobile and electronics, food stalls, and so on.
