Queen Victoria recognized the significance of foreign diplomatic tours. Since she was not into it herself, she desired the royal family members to undertake tours to countries under the crown. Apparently for a closer bond. Beginning in 1875 she deputed her eldest son Edward the Prince of Wales to the Indian sub-continent. He visited over 21 towns and cities from October 1875 to May 1876. Prince George (Edward’s son) and Princess Mary would continue the routine. They toured India from November 1905 until March 1906.
Did you know- the present Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother was Princess Mary.
