Old Book 1911 – The Indian Coronation Durbar
Title- The Indian Coronation Durbar, A Cruise To India, China, Japan
Year- 1911
Pages- 37
This is an interesting 1911 magazine / publication, brought out by a European shipping company. The shipping company had publicized their ship Dunottar Castle’s itinerary to cruise to India, China, Japan, Ceylon, and Burmah. And also to the Northern Capitals of Europe and the Norwegian Fjords. The Dunottar Castle cruise to India was in anticipation of the approaching Coronation Durbar/Delhi Durbar. The ship would arrive at Calcutta Harbour on 2nd December and for those interested in attending the Delhi Durbar arrangements would be made to reach Delhi by train.
The Durbar itself was scheduled for 12th December, thus there was enough time to reach the Durbar venue. It also mentions that they have secured for their clients one of the most advantageous sites in Delhi as their camp during the Durbar. The site comprises a fine bungalow and 29 acres of ground. The departure of the Dunottar Castle cruise liner was scheduled for 25th December. Colombo, Ceylon (Sri Lanka) would be the next port of call. The magazine displays images from the 1903 Delhi Durbar.
