Kerala Village & Backwater With Cargo Boats – Old Photo 1945
There are three old photos illustrating Kerala’s village and backwater with cargo boats. One of the photo’s stamped message on the back- Official photograph not to be communicated to the Press. There is also a handwritten message “Cochin, S W India 1945.”
The other two photos messages read- Kerala South India 1961. The photo with large cargo boats is possibly from the Mattancherry area of Cochin (now Kochi). The other two scenes are likely from the Ernakulam area (mainland Kochi) or the Mattancherry area itself.
The landscape has mostly changed, now the backwaters exist but the cargo boats are not seen much. But in place are the tourist houseboats that were somewhat copies of the Kettuvalloms or cargo boats. And are a major tourist draw in Kerala today.
Did you know- coir was and still is Kerala’s principal product because of an abundance of coconuts.
The images are of the actual items from my collection. And Not a photocopy, pirated, reproduced, or stock photos or taken from other sources.
