Exhibition In Progress At Azad Maidan Bombay, 1932 Photo
This is an old 1932 photo of an exhibition at Azad Maidan in Bombay (Mumbai). A huge crowd seemed to have gathered for the Fair, with temporary stalls erected. The Bombay Gymkhana Club with its slanting roof is visible in the far corner of the ground. The Bombay Esplanade was once composed of a massive open space. That later fragmented into the Oval Maidan, Azad Maidan, Cooperage, and Cross Maidan.
In the time of the British era exhibitions were regular occurrences on the Maidans. Although images of these fairs are not common to find. The British held exhibitions and fairs to showcase new products and it was also an entertainment center for people going through daily grind.
