Crawford Market & Electric Tram Bombay – 3 Postcard 1914
Three postcards from 1914 & 1940 of Crawford Market and electric tram in British Era Bombay (Mumbai). The Crawford Market or Mahatma Phule Market as it is now known is the busiest in Bombay. Designed by the British architect William Emerson, it is one of the iconic landmarks of Bombay.
It features a central hall with three large gateways and a 128-foot clock tower. Inside the main hall is a lovely stone fountain, gifted by the philanthropist, Sir Cowasji Jehangir. Noticeable is an early period of Bombay’s electric trams that looks to be on its way to its next destination.
