Construction Of The Art Deco Buildings Marine Drive Bombay, 1935
Two small photos show the before construction and after construction of the Art Deco buildings in Marine Drive Bombay (Mumbai). One of the photos is from 1935 which shows an Art Deco building in Marine Drive under construction. The other is from 1937 of the row of Art Deco buildings after completion.
Marine Drive (Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road) sweeps along a promenade running from Nariman Point to Malabar Hill. Parallel to the promenade are the sea-facing Art Deco buildings. Characterized by a strong Art Deco flavour, popular in Bombay during the 1930s and 1940s. The apartment blocks on the seafront were built to a uniform height of five floors. Making it the most fashionable residential area of the time. Click on the image for better view.
