Bombay Municipal Building & Vintage Car, 1917 Photo
This old 1917 photo shows the Bombay or Mumbai Municipal Corporation Building and a vintage car of that period. The Bombay Municipal building is a British architectural legacy. Situated adjacent to another great icon of Mumbai the Victoria Terminus or Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Designed by F. W. Stevens in Gothic style, Stevens had also designed the Victoria Terminus in 1877.
This old photograph is likely to be from around the early 1920s. The automotive shown is perhaps either a Chrysler, Chevrolet, Buick, Wolseley, etc of its period. Mumbai had the maximum number of cars in the British India era. Also seen is a partially visible double-decker tram of Bombay. The Municipal Corporation is today a Grade IIA heritage building and the Victoria Terminus a UNESCO world heritage site.
